Lunge

Execution

  • Start by standing up tall.
  • Step forward with one foot and lower your knee down until your front leg reaches a 90-degree angle. Your rear knee should remain close to the ground and your front knee shouldn’t go beyond your toes.
  • Lift your back lunging leg and lift your feet off the ground to return to the starting position.
  • Switch legs and repeat on the other side.

Points of attention

  • Keep your upper body straight.
  • Make sure to hit a 90-degree angle at both knees.
  • Keep your chest lifted.

Variations

PROGRESSION
  • Weighted lunges.
  • Slow on the way down, fast on the way up.
REGRESSION
  • Split squats
  • Keep the back knee a bit further off the ground
VARIATION: REVERSE LUNGE

Instead of stepping forward, step back into the same position.
